What is the gospel?
It’s simple really.
The gospel means “good news.”
To understand why it’s good news, first you need to understand the human condition.
According to the Bible, all humans are sinners.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”Romans 3:23
Because all human beings have sinned, we are heading to Hell to be punished for eternity.
So what are people supposed to do?
Are we all just doomed?
This is where the gospel comes in.
So What is The Gospel in The Bible?
The gospel is the good news of what God has done through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ took all of our sin upon himself and took the ultimate punishment for us.
Jesus Christ died for our sin so that we can be made right with God.
He was buried and rose from death three days later, showing that He had conquered sin.
“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you — unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Through God’s grace, He made it possible for sinners like you and me to be saved.
If you confess that Jesus is Lord and you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”Romans 10:9-10
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”Ephesians 2:8-9
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”John 3:16
But there’s more.
Jesus didn’t just leave us forever.
Jesus is coming back.
“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”Matthew 24:44
If you’re an unbeliever, I ask that you repent of your sins and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord so that you too can be saved.
If you’re a Christian, I encourage you to spread the gospel to unbelievers that you know!
