Masturbation is one of the most debated topics among Christians.

Many people want to know whether the Bible talks about masturbation.

Is it a sin against God?

Is there anything in Scripture that condemns such an act?

Scripture has clearly shown several things that are approved and are not approved by God.

Among them, God dislikes masturbation.

God made sex, and God was the mastermind behind it.

This beautiful expression of love came out from the knowledge of God, and He gifted it to man so that we would enjoy it under the covenant of marriage.

So what exactly does the Bible say about masturbation?

Read on to find out.

What Does The Bible Say About Masturbation?

Any act of sexual behavior before marriage is an act of sin before God.

Hebrews 13:4 says,

“Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and the sexually immoral.”

Hebrews 13:4

God cares about what we do with our bodies, both publicly and in private.

Scripture says God dwells in our hearts.

He expects purity in the heart in every aspect to live in us.

He doesn’t want us to abuse our holy bodies in any sexual immorality.

1 Corinthians 6:18 teaches us that any unlawful sexual behaviors will defile our bodies.

“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.”

1 Corinthians 6:18

Even though there are no explicit verses regarding masturbation, evidence from what Jesus spoke in the Book of Matthew gives us a clear understanding that Jesus is against it.

“If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.”

Matthew 5:30

One of the fruits of Spirit which God expects in us is self-control (Galatians 5:22-23), and masturbation is always a strong sign of lack of self-control.

There is no doubt that the thoughts we have which tempt us to masturbate are sinful.

Masturbation is always an outcome of lustful thoughts, inappropriate sexual stimulation, and/or pornography.

We need to seek the power of God to overcome these sinful acts.

Without repenting, it is impossible to please God.

God expects holiness and holiness to come when you align yourself with the Word of God.
