It’s no secret that we are now in the digital age. Everyone consumes media through a smartphone, a tablet, or computer.

(Who reads newspapers, am I right?)

Even things like billboards are becoming digital.

As a Christian who is also a digital marketer by trade, I believe today’s advancement in technology has opened up a lot of channels for us to spread the gospel.

In this post, I will be talking about how to start a Christian blog through Bluehost web hosting.

How To Spread The Gospel Online

The internet is a beautiful place. It’s opened up a lot of opportunities for Christians to spread the gospel.

The best part is that you don’t need any special skills or knowledge to participate in digital evangelism. If you can read and follow directions, you’ll be well on your way to spreading the gospel online.

As Christians, it is our duty to spread the gospel to all of the nations in the world.

This is known as The Great Commission.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

Spreading the gospel to every country on Earth is definitely a daunting task, but it has become easier with the advancement in technology.

If you’re wondering how you can spread the gospel online, I’ve listed a few possible ways below:

  • Make videos and upload them to YouTube
  • Publish an ebook
  • Start a podcast
  • Start a Christian blog

Any one of those are great choices to start with, but I believe the best way to spread the gospel is by starting a Christian blog.

Blogs are great because you have the ability to earn revenue through advertising and affiliate links, grow and engage your audience through email marketing, and much more. It’s also the easiest to start and relatively cheap as well.

Now you may be asking:

“That sounds great and all, but how exactly do I do that?”

Good question!

Read along and I’ll tell you how.

The moment you’ve been waiting for. In this post, I’ll guide you step-by-step as you start your Christian blog through Bluehost.

First of all, what is web hosting?

According to website.com, web hosting is a service that allows organizations to post their website on the Internet.

In other words, you can think of it as the place where your website will live.

Because this is a blog post about starting a blog through Bluehost, we’ll obviously be talking about Bluehost as our web hosting option.

Bluehost is one of the most popular web hosting platforms on the internet. Web hosting through Bluehost is only $3.95 a month (about the cost of one cup of coffee per month!) and it comes with a free domain for a year. It also comes with a free SSL certificate, which is needed to make your website secure and be able to display a padlock symbol next to your URL on your web browser’s address bar.

Not only can you get web hosting from Bluehost, you can also buy domain names.

Bluehost truly is a one-stop shop for starting a Christian blog.

When you first get to Bluehost, you’ll see a screen that looks like this:

Go ahead and click on the green “Get Started” button to start.

After clicking “Get Started”, you’ll come to a screen that looks like this:

You can start off by selecting the Basic plan for now.

After selecting a plan, you get the chance to pick your domain name!

A domain name is what your readers will type into the address bar of their web browser.

Be sure that the domain name you choose isn’t too long, it describes who you are, and doesn’t contain misspellings.

This will ensure that your audience will have an easy time getting to your site.

There are many places to get affordable domain names, but I recommend getting your domain from Bluehost. A perk of using Bluehost is that it comes with a free domain name for the first year. Getting your domain from Bluehost saves you some steps in the setup process for your website!

After picking your domain name, it’s time for you to put in your account information.

Now that your hosting and domain are set up, you’ll need a content management system (CMS). A CMS is an application that lets you manage and publish content. WordPress is a CMS that is very popular and it powers about 35% of the websites in the world!

To access WordPress, simply click on the blue “WordPress” button at the bottom right of the screen.

Because WordPress is so expansive and the number of things you can do with it is endless, we will be focusing on the things that your website absolutely needs. Your website absolutely needs a theme and you also need to know where to go to create and publish website content.

Choosing a Theme

What is a theme, anyway? You can think of a theme as a template for your website and it controls how your website will look.

To choose a theme, you need to click on the “Appearance” tab on the left side of the screen.
