With how secular the world is today, Christians have to use strategic ways to spread the gospel.

The old method of evangelizing door to door doesn’t always work and to be frank, it’s inefficient.

People are wary of strangers knocking on their doors, even those who claim to be bringing the gospel to them.

So how can you effectively spread the gospel to those around you?

The secret lies in how you approach people and how you share the gospel without condemning them.

God sent Jesus into the world, not to condemn it but to save it (John 3:17).

Before I share with you ways you can spread the gospel, first you have to understand what the gospel even is.

So What is The Gospel Anyway?

The word gospel literally means “good news”.

In short, the good news is that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was resurrected to show that He conquered sin, and He made it possible for sinners like us to be saved.

If you want to read more about the gospel, the Gospel Gain team wrote a more in-depth post about it.

Why Do Christians Have to Spread the Gospel?

We spread the gospel because Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20,

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

It’s our Christian duty to spread the gospel, not out of obligation, but out of love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

God’s will is that everyone in the world would believe in Jesus and be born again.

Before they can, they need to hear the gospel.

When believers of Jesus Christ share the gospel with others, they draw them toward a personal relationship with God.

Once you are born again, you can start sharing the gospel with others around you.

How Do You Prepare to Share the Gospel With Others?

Jesus equipped us to spread the gospel with others.

He gave us His word, He gave us His Spirit, He gave us spiritual gifts, and He taught us how to pray.

#1 The Word of God

A red Bible on a map.

To effectively evangelize, you need to know the word of God.

In other words, you need to read the Bible.

If you don’t already own a Bible, consider buying one from The Jerusalem Gift Shop, The American Bible Society, Biblestore.com, or Church Source.

It’s the truth and when others know it, they are set free from spiritual bondage.

2 Timothy 2:15 says,

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

2 Timothy 2:15

#2 The Holy Spirit

When you accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, He puts His Spirit in you who is the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17).

The Spirit of God works in you to transform you and make you more Christ-like.

Jesus told His disciples that they would receive the power of the Holy Spirit which would enable them to be His witnesses around the world.

Acts 1:8 says,

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

#3 Spiritual Gifts

God gives us spiritual gifts when we become believers and we are to serve the body of Christ with them.

We also use these gifts in our workplaces and out in the world as well.

Some of the spiritual gifts God gives us are the gift of prophecy, word of knowledge, healing, teaching, among others (1 Corinthians 12:8-10, Romans 12:7)

#4 Prayer

As Christians, we should be praying over everything.

God promises He will hear and answer our prayers if we pray according to His will.

Jesus’ disciples wanted to know how to pray the right way and they asked Him to show them (Luke 11:1).

Jesus knew we needed the power of God to intervene in our situations if we wanted to live victorious lives.

We can pray over those we want to share the gospel with so that God can prepare their hearts.

How to Spread The Gospel to Unbelievers

We live in a complex world and we need to come up with smart ways of sharing the gospel with others.

Not everyone is willing to go to church.

However, there are still people out there who are lost.

That’s why Jesus wanted us to make disciples of all nations.

As Christians, we need to go to all sorts of places where people don’t know the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I wrote this article in order to help fellow Christians find ways to spread the gospel.

Below are 20 Ways You Can Use to Spread the Gospel.

#1 Use Branded Apparel

I’m sure you’ve seen many Christians wearing T-shirts, sweatshirts or hats with Scripture printed on them.

This is one of the best ways to spread the gospel wherever you go.

The Scripture or phrases on your clothes will attract questions from others who want to know more.

This is your opportunity to share why you like the Bible verse on your T-shirt and what it means.

1 Peter 3:15 says we should be ready to give everyone an answer who asks for the reason for the hope we have in Christ.

Bible verses on apparel are good conversation starters and you should always be ready to give answers about the Scriptures.

One verse will open a conversation that will lead to questions about other parts of the Bible.

Companies that have Christian apparel include:

#2 Write Resources That Teach The Gospel

Preaching the word of God can also be done through written resources.

There are many people who love to read and you can write simple resources to spread the gospel.

You don’t have to worry about the deeper content of the Bible, simply share what God puts in your heart.

Create short devotionals that you can post on social media or send to a group chat.

Did you know that you can get a printable Bible study sheet and 3-page devotional for FREE from Gospel Gain? You can download it by signing up below! By signing up, we’ll also send you news, promotions, and other cool content.

The key thing to remember is that you’re explaining God’s word to others in a short and simple way that they can easily digest.

Other resources can be flyers, posters, articles, etc.

Be creative.

#3 Start a Home Fellowship Group

A group of men and women gather in the host's living room.

Starting a home fellowship group can seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be.

All you need to do is gather a few friends and have regular fellowship at your place.

Agree with the others in the group to rotate hosting the gathering so that each member gets a chance to lead the group.

In the fellowship, you can focus on reading a Bible passage, sharing what each person understands and then praying for each other’s needs.

Be sure to invite your unbelieving friends!

Afterward, you can invite them to receive Christ.

A home fellowship group is small and intimate and gives people an opportunity to open up and share their struggles.

When you support and pray for each other, you’ll create a long-lasting bond of friendship.

#4 Go on a Mission Trip

People in an airport about to go on a mission trip to spread the gospel.

Sometimes churches organize mission trips to different neighborhoods, cities or countries.

These missions are for the sole purpose of spreading the gospel with others as a way of fulfilling the Great Commission.

You can join a group that is taking a mission trip and minister to the people you find there.

Going as part of a group is good because you have others to help you when you’re unable to answer some biblical questions that people may have.

A mission trip can also be the initiative of a group of believers and not necessarily as part of a church.

Don’t limit yourself to the mission trips that originate from your church.

#5 Create Videos and Podcasts to Spread the Gospel Online

Two men discussing how to spread the gospel while recording a podcast.

God has gifted us in different ways and we should use our gifts to minister to others.

If God is leading you to open a YouTube channel or a start a podcast, then do it!

He’ll provide you with the content you need.

Videos and podcasts are great for those who don’t like to read.

Once you create your content you can let others know through social media.

You may worry about the many influencers who are releasing content daily but focus on what God is asking you to do.

Creating videos on YouTube does not need sophisticated equipment, an iPhone will do.

The important thing is to spread the word of God.

#6 Answer Questions Unbelievers Have about The Gospel

When you gather with your unbelieving friends, they might have questions about the Bible.

They will direct them to you because you are the believer in the group.

This is your opportunity to spread the gospel even as you answer their questions.

Some people who ask you questions might follow different religions.

It may not happen immediately, but the seed you plant is the one God will water and bring a great harvest.

Luke 8:11 tells us that the word of God is a seed and when planted in someone’s heart, it produces a harvest of righteousness.

They may not give an indication of getting born again, but you can be sure that God is working in their hearts so that they can receive Christ as Savior.

#7 Buy an Unbeliever a Bible or Other Faith-Based Gift

A bookshelf filled with a wide variety of books.

You can spread the gospel by buying an unsaved family member or friend a Bible.

The Jerusalem Gift Shop has a very unique Bible that is made with olive wood. This Bible can make for a great gift!

You can also buy Bibles from these resources:

The word of God will enlighten them and show them the truth about God and His plan of salvation.

As the person interacts with God’s word, the Holy Spirit begins to convict them (John 16:7-9) and they begin considering a relationship with Jesus.

A Bible is a great gift because you are ushering the other person into a new life they have never known.

Jesus is the giver of life and He came so that we could have an abundant life.

When we believe in Him we have eternal life and we look forward to spending an eternity with God.

Pray for the person that you give a Bible to and ask God to open their spiritual eyes to see the truth of the gospel.

#8 Share Your Testimony

Testimonies are a great way to spread the gospel.

People love hearing stories and when they see how God has worked in your life, they want to experience the same thing.

Your testimony is powerful and has the ability to transform another life.

If a ministry leader calls upon you to share your testimony, do it gladly knowing you will be touching lives.

#9 Invite an Unbelieving Friend to a Church Event or Conference

A crowd of people with their hands up with the name "Jesus" in the background.

Nowadays we have so many Christian events in every corner of the world and they are good opportunities to spread the gospel.

These events come in the form of a church fun day, women’s or men’s conference, etc.

You can be sure there are plenty of Christian events near where you live.

Where you have a friend who doesn’t know the Lord, invite them for one of the sessions or meetings and let them experience God for themselves.

Sometimes all you have to do is let someone know of an event that is relevant to them and invite them or direct them to the venue.

Many people have encountered Christ this way.

These Christian gatherings usually have altar calls for those who would like to receive Christ and your friend might be one of them.

Imagine receiving the good news that someone you invited to an event has accepted Christ as Savior.

#10 Hold on to Your Faith in a Secular Environment

A great way to evangelize is to hold on to your faith when others around you are engaging in ungodly things.

It is definitely not easy because others will ridicule you and make fun of your faith.

They will tell you that you are missing out on a lot by not joining them in what they are doing.

Daniel faced the same problem when he was in exile in Babylon.

He had to contend with magicians, diviners and his colleagues who were always looking for how to make him let go of his faith.

Daniel stood his ground and it cost him.

But God always came to his rescue.

Daniel proposed not to defile himself with the delicacies of Babylon because he knew they were rooted in idolatry (Daniel 1:8).

We can do the same today when in an environment that is hostile.

When you hold on to your faith, others will come to know your God and want to experience Him for themselves.

#11 Support Missionaries and Ministries that Engage in Evangelism

Did you know that you can also support other missionaries and ministries that focus on evangelism?

God has called many of His ministers to be full time missionaries to spread the gospel to different parts of the world.

They require funding and you can support them when they go on mission trips.

In this digital age, you can support a ministry of your choice regardless of where they are located in the world.

If you believe in the cause they stand for, you can send funding to them to enable them to reach every part of the world with the gospel.

You may not reach all parts of the world but you can partner with those who do.

If you’d like, you can be a regular partner with a particular ministry and support them every month.

#12 Share God’s Word on Social Media

A person holding a cell phone while on a laptop. The laptop is displaying a social media website. Perhaps the person wants to know how to spread the gospel.

The internet has brought great opportunities to share the gospel with others.

Social media is a great place to let others know the word of God.

It allows you to reach people from all corners of the world.

The interesting thing is that many unbelievers will want to subscribe to your content because they are seeking God and want to know how to connect with Him.

They may not even be the ones who “like” your content but may quietly consume it and experience God.

Use the social media you engage with the most so that you can be consistent in posting content.

Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest, share your biblical content as regularly as you like.

#13 Pray for Unbelievers

A group of men praying for an unbeliever.

Prayer is powerful and it allows God to intervene in the lives of others.

When you pray for a person who doesn’t know Christ, you are asking God to prepare their hearts to receive the gospel.

Sometimes the person may be in your circle of influence and other times they may be someone on TV, radio or social media.

If you are watching a program on TV and God lays it on your heart to pray for the person, then do so.

You will not always get a chance to evangelize unbelievers you pray for, but trust that God is moving in their life.

Have you ever prayed for someone on TV or social media and months or years later you get word that they received Christ?

This is the power of prayer.

#14 Invite Someone to a Church Service

A row of people holding Bibles.

If you don’t have a chance to sit with someone and explain the gospel to them, invite them to church!

You might find that the person doesn’t go to church and the day they come for a service, they find God had prepared a sermon that was very specific to them.

It’s exciting to hear such a testimony from someone you once invited to your church.

Sometimes new believers fear to go into details of the gospel and what the Bible says and shy away from evangelizing.

Remember that inviting someone to church is allowing God to use you as part of the person’s salvation journey.

You may not be the one who leads them to Christ, but you will have planted a seed in their heart and God will water it.

#15 Buy a Gospel CD

A wide assortment of CDs.

Some people connect better with music as opposed to listening to many programs online.

For people who don’t know Christ and love music, you can buy them a gospel CD that matches their music taste.

They will love you for it.

Allow God to help you choose the appropriate music for the person you want to gift.

He knows them better and knows what they like listening to.

Praise and worship songs always usher people into the presence of God and He can minister to them in that space.

You can also send a friend a link to a music streaming site that has the kind of gospel music they will love.

God uses all channels He can to reach a person and who knows, you may find that your friend tells you that they accepted Christ as they were listening to a particular song.

#16 Create Devotionals

Technology has made evangelizing easier.

It is not like many years ago when Christians had to go door to door telling others about Christ.

Today there are countless methods that you can use even from the comfort of your home.

You can create simple devotionals that you can share with others who don’t know the Lord.

A short devotional sent via your social media accounts will draw others to the word of God.

Printable devotionals will come in handy if you have a group you meet regularly and you have a word to share with them.

Did you know that you can get a printable Bible study sheet and 3-page devotional for FREE from Gospel Gain? You can download it by signing up below! By signing up, we’ll also send you news, promotions, and other cool content.

[convertkit form=1451014]

A devotional is something you can forward someone on email.

If you are good with graphic design, you can create an infographic that simplifies the gospel in terms of images and Bible verses.

#17 Start a Blog

A person typing on a laptop, perhaps sharing ways on how to spread the gospel.

Thank God that a blog is easy to open.

You only need to know how one works and you can have yours up and running in less than half an hour.

A blog is an ideal place to write prayers, devotionals or articles that help others understand the word of God.

If you are not a natural writer you can get one to help you develop content for your blog.

A blog will not only allow you to post your content but sell other products you have like branded apparel or books.

There are unbelievers out there who are looking for the information you post on your blog.

As God lays it in your heart to create content, He is leading others to your blog to consume it and encounter Him.

#18 Use Your Gifts

God has given each believer spiritual gifts to minister to the body of Christ and the rest of the world.

When God gave us the Great Commission, He knew that we have different personalities and different gifts.

Each person has the best way they minister to others.

1 Corinthians 12:8-10, 12:28, Romans 12:6-9, and Ephesians 4:11 list the spiritual gifts God has given each believer.

The gift God has given you will manifest as you serve Him.

Others will confirm it in the body of Christ.

Use your gifts to minister to the needs of others not only when you are in church, but at work or other places you frequent.

For example, if God has given you the gift of teaching, you can start with teaching a small group or writing blog articles.

God will provide the opportunities where you can use your spiritual gifts and you will find that they bring others to God.

#19 Have a Bible Verse Bumper Sticker

It’s common nowadays to find cars with bumper stickers with messages of all kinds.

If you have a car, you can get one and stick it on the back.

You never know when God will minister to the driver behind you using the message on your sticker.

Whether it’s a Bible verse or a message rooted in the Bible, it will encourage, heal, deliver and direct others toward God.

How many times has God used a bumper sticker to minister to you?

You must have encountered messages that were specific to a situation you were going through.

In the same way, God will touch the heart of an unbeliever using a message on a bumper sticker.

The driver may not even know how many people are impacted by it.

#20 Start a Support Group

Support groups are a good way to minister to those who don’t know Christ.

They are safe places where others come to find hope and healing.

For example, a group for those who are divorced or widowed helps the participants heal and start over.

If there is an unbeliever in the group, you can share the power of God to help them through their circumstance.

It is easy to spread the gospel in a support group because the participants have tried other ways to overcome their issues and failed.

They are ready to do things God’s way and you can ask them if they would like to give their lives to Christ.

You’ll find many are willing.

To start a support group requires that you have overcome the issue you are helping others deal with.

2 Corinthians 1:4 says that God comforts us so that we can in turn comfort others in the same manner.

Conclusion

There are many other ways you can use to spread the gospel to others around you.

Don’t limit God because He knows how to reach every person who needs to hear about Jesus Christ.

Study the Bible every day so that you will know how to respond to questions unbelievers may have about certain Bible verses.

Read or watch biblical teachings from other ministers and enrich your knowledge of God’s word.

Learn to listen to the Holy Spirit for He will guide your evangelism efforts.

Pray for those you plan on sharing the good news of the gospel. Keep in mind that it is the Holy Spirit that convicts others, not you.

Don’t take it personally when you share the gospel with someone and they don’t seem interested in receiving Christ.

Your goal is to plant the seed and allow God to do the rest.

Be confident and bold as you spread the gospel to others around you and watch what God does in the lives of others.
