What Is The Armor of God?

Armor of God

When we take up the invitation to become a child of God, He introduces us to a life that is filled with blessings and amazement in ways we have never known before. We learn that joy, peace, deliverance, and strength can all be ours. Miracles still happen and blessings are much more than things we can hold in our hands!

That being said, we must realize another truth, and the sooner we acknowledge it, the sooner we will equip ourselves to handle our mission.

When God invites us to be part of His kingdom, He is not inviting us to a playground. We have been recruited into a battle. It is a battle against an enemy that doesn’t want us to win – the devil. The battle against our enemy begins when we decide to live for God. We’ve switched our loyalties, and Satan wants us back.

As Paul said in 2 Timothy 4:7,

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

2 Timothy 4:7

It is a battle, but it is a battle we can win when we have the armor of God!

We’re no match for the devil on our own, but that is one of the many beautiful things about God. He already knew that and has given us weapons and instructions so that we can win. The Bible even tells us to put on the full armor of God! We don’t have to be defenseless.

Just like a natural battle, we don’t have to be defenseless, but the choice is ours whether we pick up and put on the armor of God that will protect us and help us to fight back.

Ephesians 6:10-17 says,

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Ephesians 6:10-17

We should never try to fool ourselves and think that we can fight the devil without the help of our Savior.  We must put on the armor of God that He has given us access to.

Let’s look at the different pieces of the armor of God to see what He has given us for battle:

  • The belt of truth
  • The breastplate of righteousness
  • Our feet ready to carry the Gospel to others
  • The shield of faith
  • The helmet of salvation
  • The sword of the Spirit

The Belt of Truth

John 17:17 says,

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

John 17:17

The Bible is how God speaks to us. This is where we learn the instructions of our Commander in Chief.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

Proverbs 12:28 tells us,

“In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.”

Proverbs 12:28

Living right (the way God wants us to, not wavering every time we are tempted) guards our hearts, so that we will not become a casualty during this war.

Our Feet Ready to Carry The Gospel to Others

Romans 10:15 says,

And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Romans 10:15

Our preparation (being equipped with knowing the Word) will protect us when we walk through tough times and will help carry us wherever God wants us to witness to others.

The Shield of Faith

1 Corinthians 2:5 says,

so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

1 Corinthians 2:5

Relying on the truth of God’s Word and His power is what helps us to quench the flaming arrows of Satan, not leaning on our own understanding and using natural weapons to stand against a spiritual enemy.

The Helmet of Salvation

Acts 4:12 says,

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:12

This great salvation message does not come from Buddha, Allah, or any other god.  It comes from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Sword of The Spirit

2 Timothy 2:15 says,

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

2 Timothy 2:15

The Bible is where we find truth. It’s where we find our strength and the tactics for fighting the devil.  Knowing the Word is how we learn what God desires in us, what displeases Him, the tricks of the enemy, how to treat others, and more.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says,

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17

There is a proper way to handle the Word of God (the Sword), and we find the answers by handling it more and more. Carelessness can harm a bystander, but being focused can guard our souls, and even help another soul that is being attacked by the enemy.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 explains,

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Jesus offers us everything we need to be victorious! When we are in the Lord’s army, we are equipped with the best—the armor of God!

As we are reminded in Philippians 4:13,

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:13

We hope you have a blessed day!
